Phi Theta Kappa All-Missouri Academic Team Recognition
Missouri was the first state in the nation to honor outstanding Phi Theta Kappa scholar-leaders with a state academic team program. The tradition began in 1994, and today 36 other states have adopted the idea and made it their own.
Students are selected to be on the All-Missouri Academic Team by Phi Theta Kappa. PTK also identifies members of the All-USA Academic Team; Coca-Cola Bronze, Silver, and Gold Scholars; and the recipient of the New Century Scholar Award.
The application process for all of these awards is the same. Students must be nominated by their campus’ PTK advisor and complete an application form. The deadline to apply is usually in early December. Visit PTK’s All-USA Community College Academic Team webpage for more information.
Student Leadership Awards
Each college/campus is invited to identify a student to receive the Student Leadership Award. The award is presented annually to an exceptional student leader from each of Missouri’s community colleges/campuses. Recipients are identified by their college/campus president/chancellor and chief student affairs officer.
Criteria for selection include:
- The student must be enrolled in good standing at a Missouri community college;
- The student must have a 2.5 GPA or higher; and
- The student must have exhibited outstanding leadership qualities through contributions to the college during the current academic year.
Excellence in Teaching Awards
MCCA honors outstanding community college educators each year with the Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award is presented to an exemplary teacher from each college and campus, and the presentation is made during the same luncheon at which the members of the All-Missouri Academic Team are honored.
